We've sat down with Ralphyy, an up and coming Rainbow Six streamer to find out about his journey to this point and his experience at the Six Invitational.

So, for people who might not know you, can you give us an introduction to Ralphy?

Hi, my name is David, but everyone knows me as Ralphy (This was my nickname back in school as everyone called me by my surname and its stuck ever since) and I’m a UK streamer spending 98% of my time on Siege.

You are mostly known for your Rainbow Six streams, what pushed you to start streaming?

Originally I started streaming as a way to record gameplay of myself and at the time didn’t have things like “Shadowplay” and didn’t like programs like “Fraps” so used this as a way to be constantly recording in case there was anything id need in the future. By no means did I ever think that people would want to sit there and use their spare time to interact and watch me playing games.

I started streaming back at the start of 2015 on a lot of random games but after attending EGX with my friends that year and getting a chance to try Siege I knew this was going to be the main game that I would want to stream and create my content around. I took part in the Technical Test and the Beta programs and since then have been hooked. The game has come such a long way in 5 years and although there have been many ups and downs in terms of player feedback and gameplay the game still continues to have many of us addicted.

As someone who has played the game for a while now, what is something you think would be cool to see in the game? This could be a new mode etc.

I think the one thing I would like to see and this is something that MANY people have been requesting for a while now would be a streamer mode in game. “Stream sniping” has become a big thing within Siege now and it not only affects the biggest streamers within the scene but its started impacting us smaller streamers also.

What id like to see is something like they have done with the ranks now when you play modes like Ranked and Unranked. Hide the player names while playing the match, have something like “Unknown” on the scoreboard and then when the intel is found for that player i.e. he’s droned or spotted on cameras switch to the operator name, “Lesion” or “Ash”. Once the match is over and you are on the final scoreboard, then the players names are shown just like the ranks are.

In terms of a new game mode id love to see something like infected come to Siege. Something like the previous Halloween event where the attackers were playing with sledgehammers only but this time it would be a free for all, 1 person gets infected at the start and then must try to infect the other 9 until only 1 is left standing. Defenders can come outside the building without getting spotted, this would give them a lot more places to run and hide. Either this or another Outbreak event, that was my favourite all time event R6 has done to date!

What has been a standout moment for you so far in regard to Rainbow Six?

Hands down has to be attending the Invitationals this year. With working full time it was always difficult to get time off but just before the 2017 Invites I was made redundant and same with the 2019 one. So when the 2020 Invites were announced I had no idea I would be going this time but thanks to all my amazing friends and stream I was able to go! I attended the Paris Majors and up until then nothing had come close to beating it as an event/ experience for me, but the Invitationals knocked it out the park. Getting to meet people that I met back in the early years of Siege face to face was a surreal experience and something I will forever be grateful to Ubisoft for because if it wasn’t for Siege I wouldn’t get these chances.

The atmosphere within the arena no matter what match was playing was incredible and when the crowd cheered, I always got goose bumps. You just can’t get the same feeling watching it through a screen.

Create your own team - you are the coach, what 5 players are you picking up? It can be any player Pro or Am across the world

So I think he has been the popular choice across the board with most people but I think I would have to choose Fabian to lead as he has been in the scene for a good majority of the game now and has great knowledge and keeps the team straight. I think id chose Kanto to go in and get the entry, can trust him to do his job. I think id go for Geo and Dan in flex roles as they can both adapt to the situation really well. I think id have to stick Pengu in there as one of the most experienced and probably one of the best Siege players out there since the start, plus he can adapt to any role. Guy plays a mean smoke!
